Knee Knacker Report on Black Mountain Boardwalk

Report from Katherine Steig and Alex Wallace

Andrew Wong, Knee Knackers' volunteer organizer for the Black Mountain boardwalk project, has now added photos to the report he'd posted earlier on the Knee Knackers' website.  See links below for his very entertaining report and graphic photos of the conditions the team worked under to install 65 metres (220 ft.) of new boardwalk on the Black Mountain Baden-Powell Trail at Cypress, in an area where the trail had deteriorated into a bottomless morass where at least one hiker had become stranded and needed to be pulled to safety in recent years.

This project was a model of local collaboration: originated by Friends of Cypress Provincial Park’s Katharine Steig, funding for this project came from the BC Parks Community Legacy Program grant obtained by North Shore Wetland Partners (NSWP) for wetlands restoration at Cypress.  NSWP Director Bruce McArthur served as project manager for the boardwalk and was assisted by Park Rangers Rob Wilson and Mark Grist, along with all the hard-working Knee Knackers shown in the photos.  The boardwalk represents the first major improvement to this section of the Baden-Powell Trail in a very long time.  Thanks to all involved in this work. We hope it will be possible to improve other sections of the trail in the near (not distant) future and in dry weather.
