Views on mountain biking

Mountain biking is an activity that many FMCBC members participate in, but it is not one of our core activities.  There are diverse views amongst our membership and the public on the relationship between mountain biking and other activities such as hiking, that are entirely non-mechanized.  Recently this topic was brought to the fore of our attention after we published an article in our Fall 2011 Cloudburst magazine about management planning in South Chilcotin Mountains Provincial Park.  We subsequently posted a revised article on this topic on our wiki on the South Chilcotin Mountains Provincial Park Planning page.

An FMCBC policy on mountain biking from 1990 is available below (thanks to Gabriel Mazoret).  This document may be somewhat outdated but likely serves as a good starting point for a revised policy.  The FMCBC and mountain bikers share many values and will hopefully be able to work together in the future towards our common goals.  This page will be updated as the process continues.  Your input is welcome.

Mountain biking is being considered for the Singing Pass area of Garibaldi Provincial Park as part of the Garibaldi Park management plan amendment process.
